Leaders Approve $3 Million Bond Issuance
Leaders with the City of Lawrenceburg have voted in favor of issuing up to $3 million in General Obligation Bonds for the purpose of completing various public works projects in coming months.
The resolution was presented for consideration during the regular bi-monthly business meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and council Thursday morning.
The resolution states that the funds shall be used for, “The acquisition of land and the construction and equipping of site improvements, buildings, facilities and equipment for parks and for general governmental purposes and the acquisition of equipment for the fire department.”
In past months council members have discussed how best to accomplish several projects that present liability issues for the city.
They indicate that it will cost some $140,000 to make various improvements to city properties in order to bring them into compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.
Leaders plan to spend $200,000 on repairs to the marquee at the Old Crockett Theater and $165,000 for installation of lighting at ball fields.
A Lawrenceburg Fire Department ladder truck must be replaced. In order to replace the truck at as low a cost as possible they plan to purchase a used truck at a cost of $625,000.
Due to safety issues, Mayor Keith Durham said that the city will contribute $750,000 toward replacement of the grandstand at Rotary Park. He said that it is a city project, but that they will partner with the Rotary Club. That organization will fund a portion of the cost, as well.
The remaining funds city officials hope to use in the relocation of the Lawrenceburg Police Department. Leaders have looked into purchasing and renovating the Welch building on the Public Square as a possible relocation site.
Professionals estimate that it would cost in excess of $1 million in renovations to the building. Other sites are also being consideration.
